Freeze

You were always one step ahead,

That’s how it always was.

Dreams faded,

Seasons changed,

But you were constant,

You were unmoved.

If death greeted me cordially you were life,

The pulse that brought me back from dreams,

And gave me consciousness,

Catching me through every crack and crevice,

Through every bump and skid you were balance,

The rush to my heart,

The oxygen that rests in my blood,

My voice when life closes my throat.

I can only watch,

When you enter the room time secedes,

My rushing blood is cold,

I must get away but I don’t want to run,

I can’t run,

I can’t feel my knees,

My eyes won’t look away,

You ask why I stare but I can’t answer you,

I don’t know how,

Because when you love to no avail,

You know how every story ends,

Before it even begins.
