The First Amendment

The words in the great manuscript seem to have been forgotten,

Such order, such brilliance, such patriotism.

We all claim that we still follow the rules,

But times have changed and so have people.

Have we lost our intent to treat others justly?

Have we chosen the common path?

Have we decided to cast tolerance aside,

For our own biased belief?

Perhaps there are some that still are aware

That what we say, do, and think matter.

But how many truly know

That everything we cast aside,

Comes back and mourns for its sad and broken purpose?

There are times when we make mistakes,

When we judge instantaneously.

But how can we know

Why they believe

What they believe?

This undying question

Will forever burn on Earth.

So, because it is here to stay,

Let’s decide to be the one

To change.
