As much as arguing comes natural to most people
We realize how much arguing makes each other feeble
No matter how loud or how subtle we yell at each other
No matter how many times we mend, it tends to keep breaking again
Like a scab on an arm that we’re impatiently trying to get rid of
And we keep trying to rip up but it just keeps bleeding and clogging up
And then a temporary band-aid is needed for mopping up
And once that bandage is off, it’s still there unfortunately
Our loud voices become the proud noises that break through ignorance
And fills up arguments like prescription bottles, we get addicted to it
And it feels so good fulfilling your temporary dreams of throwing screams
At your loved ones, when on the outside it just doesn’t seem to sew seams
To close the holes that you made in your loved ones
And arguing simply is enough fun when you proved others your voice is never unsung
Verbal damage can’t be undone; it stays there like a bruise, but permanent
And it keeps burning skin until it gets into the inside and instigates your thoughts
Reminiscing so bitterly about the last time you were yelled at
And we keep arguing and arguing
Like we keep pulling monsters out of our mouths
And we’re stuck in a room just us two
And a bunch of monsters standing there like what are we supposed to do
Wasting the room and wasting the time when we could sit back and relax with wine
And now people want to press rewind like regret has become their tape player
Fast forward conversations like we’re too lazy to take it in and get through with them
Record over others like we don’t give a damn
And pause like we’re not ready for verbal abuse
I thought our ears were made to hear the news
Good or bad, the tone lets us step in each other’s shoes
As we grasp what spoken words really mean
And before we argue or scream,
Let us think so we don’t cause a scene
That would shove others down
I want to push around gently
like it was back in first grade
So playfully, like make-believe imagination
To get away from people who haven’t realized
What arguing has done for us today.
