Fireworks

We had planned to watch the fireworks
Sparks will fly tonight
It was new love
It was first love
Walking hand in hand eyes diverted
Too scared to look at each by chance the world would sever
It could sever
Coming around the pier a perfect spot appeared through the wickets of the crowds
We took our staged positions
Looked up at the sky
And anticipated the sparks that never happened
But the fireworks
Lit up the sky in a magnificence that wasn't meant for us
It was never meant for us
It couldn't have been for us
But some odd years later we somehow kept in touch
We establish conversation
We chat day by day
The feeling wont escape me
It won't ever be the same
Like that one time
We finally looked into each others eyes
While we held hands
Fireworks lit up the sky
