Finish Line

Running,
the wind whipping his face,
keeping him focused on his goal
Pushing harder,
running faster,
eyes locking on his target
It's still distant,
but getting clearer
The wind stings;
brings tears to his eyes
The wind stings;
he sets his jaw
in determination
Legs burning,
arms pumping,
pushing forward-
running faster still
His vision clears
the target within sight
A yellow band
of freedom,
of victory
Never slowing,
never retreating
Always pushing,
always reaching
Until, finally
the yellow tape
is broken
and he emerges
at last
a winner
