Finding One's Other Half

A brazen fire lights up the heavens,

Like a fireworks display of grace.

I see something tumbling down

That to me screams, “I’m out of place!”

I run and tumble down the mighty ravine,

Hoping to grasp onto a sight hardly seen.

Finding myself struggling to get there

And see what the sky has rejected.

I scream out in initial terror,

Of what was neither good or fairer.

One of great beauty was glowing

In bright ethereal light.

A sight surely so unperfected,

Was crowded in my blurry vision.

They were bleeding from their back,

I had to make the final decision.

I stand still just a measure,

My terror breaking it’s swift hold.

The blood was not of crimson color,

A hue of celestial beings, I’ve been told.

A sharp breath intaken,

At the meeting of our eyes.

An encounter with the stars themselves,

Breaking the insecurity I have inside.

My fingers itching to reach perfection,

Deep inside having good intention,

But their eyes lit up with barbed wire fences,

As I reached out to break the tension.

.

By fair hair and fierce vision

And determination to have something true,

I combine all my strength and will,

tame and reach through.

Their eyes are wide with uncertainty

And I steady the fear throughout me.

I grasp onto their tensed shoulders

And give them a sense of security.

I lift their backpack off the ground

And tell them they’re safe and sound.

I won’t let them get hurt anymore,

I can’t stand seeing someone break down.
