Fails
Warm milk once trickled my throat
I took it for granted
But now that seemed a luxury for
my longing lips are as dry
as my mother’s nips
I haven’t seen my father for weeks
Once he returned, he carried nothing but air
His face wet with tears as warm as the water is turning
His body as thin as a seal’s whisker
I’ve never learned to hunt for
my eyes never had the pleasure of seeing a seal
I’ve never been taught to swim for
there was no reason to find our next meal
they have long disappeared
their bodies sinking to
the ocean floor
my life is full of disappointment
with no one to play with
My mother can’t even lift her head
There is nobody around for they have all starved
I have a list of things I want to do
but we innocent families cannot control the
humans’ brains
We are where we belong,
and we are the most strong
However, our lives will soon end
as the humans are using our ice
to take showers in their paradise
All of us are dying in hunger
for the ground below us
offers no more shelter for our prey
As I grew bigger,
my parents became older
As I grew bigger,
the world around me grew smaller
As I grew bigger,
lives were sacrificed
My life then ended with a thump after my last failed hunt.
Polar bears were crossed off the endangered list
Now, in the year 2100, we have left this cruel world entirely
I guess that now kids will only see us dressed up by idiotic humans
