Expectations

O expectations, what a blessing in a curse

You taught me to want more from myself

Without you, I'd be feeling so much worse

No longer just a bland book on a shelf

I didn't want to be what everyone expected

I wanted to defy all their thoughts

Because of you, I took a while and reflected

I tied all of my loose knots

I expanded my skills and found new hobbies

I escaped the expectation of being a boring nerd

Now I could stand out even in crowded lobbies

And that's something I love when it's heard

Expectations, you give me the inspiration to be unique

Now, everyday there's something new to seek
