Everything Remains

Wine stains
On blank sheets;
Soft words
And rosy cheeks;
Rusty rings and ruins,
Diamond eyes are gone.

“Everything remains.”
But maybe they were wrong.

All we are,
All we have,
In a thousand years
Will be naught.

We worry and we weather,
But will we be remembered?
Will you be remembered?

Oh, nothing stays the same.
We will not remain.

But what about the deepest,
Blues of water?
The grass, the birds, the trees?

You see,
The romanticism that lies within
These are memories greatest treasure.

Oh, let the angels reign,
And the glittering gold
Beneath the calmer shores remain.

Let the sky conquer the earth,
And let the birds softly praise the day.

Seize the glorious night,
Let’s find another way.
Nature’s glorious perfection
Will find another place to stay.

You’ll see them all again
In daydreams, I promise.

When all of this is gone,
The memories will remain.
Our memories will remain
