As time passes, as days go by
Our hearts are filled with content
Grateful for the world we live in
With security and privileges
At times, we complain, we fight, we forgive
How about those before our time?
The struggles inflicted every day
Tears and blood shed every day
Hearts broken; children crying every day
The crunching sound of agony can do so much
But… those who rose above that
The King, Rosa Parks, Janet Jackson
Sit back, no they didn’t
Cry in the corner, no they didn’t
They put their foot down
And reached to all, white or black
Preaching equality and fairness
Their bravery and confidence contagious
Let us remember the problems they dealt with
Every day
Let us praise their determination and commitment
Every day
Let not Black History Month be once a year
Rather Black History Month celebrated every day!
