Equality

By: Tyree Jackson

“MAYBE LIBERTY JUSTICE EQUALITY
MAYBE IN THE 21ST CENTURY
MAYBE ON ANOTHER PLANET
MAYBE IN OUTER SPACE MAYBE MAYBE MAYBE
NO EQUALITY NO JUSTICE NO LIBERTY
WHAT KIND OF DEMOCRACY IS THIS?” –Jayne Cortez

Our scarred up hands
can't grasp it.
Our salivated mouths
can't taste.
Our eyes
see.

We speak this word
as if
our tongues
foreign
want to stain the air
a beautiful tone

Equality

Equality

E-qual-ity

Where does
it lie?

Our hearts?

I've seen some of your poems and I like this one, but I feel like this is just the beginning.Go deeper, why does your audience care about equality, what does equality mean? Is there more than one meaning?
Where does it lie? Are you saying equality is a lie, cause that's one way to see it.

The poem was great the message was there and even though it wasn't lengthy it painted a picture as to what it was about and gave me a vision of what you meant. I'm new to this and wanted your opinion on my poem if you can. It's lengthy, but if you can sit and read through it and give me your opinion it would be amazing. Thank you and great poem

I have a couple of poems i would like you to check out...and i also enjoyed your poems. I also have a question about the slam poetry scholarship. I submitted poems for the scholarship, when will the awards be put out?

I love the styles of your writings and I wish to be able to write in different styles, so I do ask: may you check over my poems and let me know what I can do to be a better writer?
