An Elegy for a Neglected Man

The sun rose and the town continued on with its normal behavior
Children sang and danced
Men went to work
Women mended the home and children
Yet, no one remembered him

A man of few words
Who considered the waste his only acquaintance
And lived in the dark alleyway
Where no one crossed

He spent no money
For he had no money to spend
Except the few dollars people gave to him
Out of pity, out of good will

This man passed away into Death’s arms
From lack of hydration and nourishment
He died a man of loneliness
Of unhappiness
