Effect

What if I had never changed

The lock on that old door?

What if I had watched that wave

As it crashed upon the shore?

What if I had never thrown away

That scrap of paper there?

What if I had never put

Long braids into my hair?

What if I had never listened

To my favorite song?

What if I had realized

That my answer was all wrong?

If every action has a consequence

Then wouldn’t a little thing

Make a bigger change

It seems like common sense

In hide and seek,

If I’d never been the one who hid

Maybe you would not have done

The terrible things you did.
