Echo

At first she whispered,
Barely hearing a sound.
All she got back was an echo,
Or knowledgeable ignorance.

Then she tried speaking,
Barely hearing a sound.
All she got back was an echo,
Or painful taunting.

After that she tried screaming,
Barely hearing a sound.
All she got back was an echo,
Or unmeaning words.

Finally she couldn't speak any longer,
Not hearing a sound.
She didn't get back an echo,
Just silence.
