It was dark,
Not quite midnight
But late.
I was tired.
My eyes felt heavy.
They shut,
And it is dark again.
I awake not at home.
I was by myself
And afraid.
I wanted to run
But I had no where to turn.
I was frustrated
Not knowing how to escape.
Now I am stuck in my head,
Still stuck in the dark.
It's light out now
And I can see it.
I wake at home
Safe in my bed.
I hate sleep
Because I am hopeless.
I can't fight the terrors
In my head.

I wrote this poem to address how hard it can be to sleep with nightmares and how some insomniacs become insomniacs, because they are afraid to sleep.
