Dr. Pence

It is rare to meet a woman of such immense power

to feel as though her stare could straighten your back

raise your chin

open your mind

She never encouraged me

never told me of what I could become

I found strength in her silence

I wanted her spirit to overcome me

with one glance, I gained the will to help my classmates

to transcribe millions of melodies into different keys

to listen to endless hours of Bach

to apply to my dream schools

Without her, I would not be actively pursuing my operatic dreams

she offered no counsel or guidance

only her silent, diligent affirmation that continues to lead me onward today
