Down the Street
As I looked down the street
I saw a beautiful young lady.
On the other side was a man
Black
and single maybe.
He waves to her like neighbors
they were,
She said "Hey! Right here..
will you marry me?"
"Yes!" he said.
Down the street months later
they made their vows
and said their "I do's"
I cried and jumped
I was in their love too.
Days later down the street I saw
Her
screaming and yelling
and I saw him angrily swearing!
Silence.
"I'm sorry" they said.
Then I learned something
They could never unite if they weren't
different.
They could never join hands
If they didn't have one of their own.
We are frail.
We shatter because we
Can
unite.
We f i g h t because we
Can
be friends.
When we unite, we become stronger
A chemical bond inseparable
Forever!
United we strive
In ignorance we die.
We are different and that's why
we can be united.
That's the America I strive for.
