don't teach me for grades teach me for knowledge
don't prepare me for tests prepare me for college
you tell me to prioritize
so I study
and read
and practice
and review
yet you don't sympathize
so I struggle
and re-read
and re-practice
and re-review
those standardized tests don't teach
and you teachers don't reach
the heart of the students
who can't live up to your prudence
because you teach as your occupation
not in order to gain trust and relation
so this is why we struggle
because as students we can't juggle
your loads of work that don't stick
because memorizing facts isn't the kick
don't teach me for your benefit nor teach me in strife
don't prepare me for your work, prepare me for my life
