Don't Spill the Young Blood
Brazen youth facing the sun, we viewed the skies
Azure blue temple spreads for miles from my eyes,
forests and beaches and foreign lands, we build new fleet
A city that never dies vibrating beneath our feet
So full, yet so empty, and we are unfettered
ours to learn from, to change, to better
Until steel and gunpowder busted down the unguarded golden door
texting Momma "I love you, I don't know if I'll be here much more"
And so bullets whizz by and maybe if you're lucky, away
This happens to the Nation's young blood every day
Learning and growth interrupted by the loading of a mag
Are we the innocent now supposed to bleed under our flag?
We used to believe schools were safe to live and learn
Today, we hide in dark classrooms and watch that claim burn
We thought that first oppressors would take our rights
Turns out they went straight to taking our lives
