Do You Know the Sound?

Location

Do you know the sound of a heart breaking?

The barely audible whisper of glass cracking,

How do I know it well like a lover's voice?

For mine is broken constantly without choice.

Hear his voice caress another's ear,

When that love is what I crave to hear.

The quiet tears mingle with the water in my sink,

Why bother to move or blink?

Dreams of a lover that's tender and caring,

Knight in shining armor; brave and daring.

Someone who makes my heart race,

Not throw my heart like a dirty rag in my face.

A person to hold my hand at the skating rink,

Yet at the moment my sanity is on the brink.

Having a single being so close and dear,

The agonizing pain of each individual rip does sear.

Now you know the sound of a heart breaking,

Tiny slivers of glass slipping....

Ever so slowly.....

Through my bloodied fingers....

My favorite part of this poem is that I think my readers can really FEEL and understand the hurt, the pain, the anger, the sadness and the loss that's contained within, and that's what I hope to achieve with writing.
