Distance

Where there is love,

Distance doesn’t matter.

Whoever wrote this line doesn’t know the kind

Of love I have for you.

The kind of love that’s all consuming,

The kind that makes it hard to breath.

Feels so good to be with you,

Hurts so much when you’re away.

Eats me from the inside out,

Fills my mind to the brim.

All my waking thoughts are of you;

What you’re doing;

Who you’re with;

If you’re managing to be happy when we’re so far apart.

My mind is always full of memories.

The first time I saw you smile;

The first time you took my hand in yours;

The first touch of your lips against my own;

The first time I felt truly loved.

Memories playing back over and over,

Day by day,

Week by week,

Month by month.

Distance matters so much,

When you’re in love.

Distance matters so much,

When half of your heart is hundreds of miles away.

Distance matters so much,

When you can still feel the lingering press of lips from the last kiss you shared,

Not sure when you’d be able to share one again.
