The Disappearance

No one has heard from her since that day

That afternoon in October

Some say she’s dead, or ran away

The air is getting colder

Blood-stained clothes discovered of hers

Yet she can not be seen

An emergency search soon occurs

Where could she possibly be?

The blame is all on him

Her friend is murdered next

A situation oh-so grim

Her tongue ripped out, a stab of the neck

Her mother is a wreck, alcohol on her breath

Her sanity is lost

Her daughter, a seeming victim of a local death

They all just want to find her, no matter what the cost

Concerned for her well-being

He ventures in unknown

Perhaps she had been fleeing

A dangerous adventure he has to face alone

A life is flashed before his eyes

The killer arrives home

Her belongings are astray, much to his surprise

His fate is all his own

One lost-life is brought to equity

The other remains unknown

At the hands of a man of devilry

Hoping she’ll come home

  • Side Note: This ballad was based on plot lines from one of my favorite reads, “Last Seen Leaving,” by author Caleb Roerhig. In no way do I support murder, kidnapping, or any of the ideas displayed in my piece, I simply loved the book and chose to honor it with this poem :)
