Differences

I wonder what the sunrise looks like upon distant lands

I wonder about the people watching it rise and how their day will be

I wonder if there's someone out there thinking of me

we may all look different,

wear different clothes

we all feel pain, all our hearts beat the same

we all feel joy, sorrow and grief

we all lay our heads down and sleep

we eat and we drink, we breathe and we think

If one day people had the courage to say,

their thoughts and their fears,

talk of our differences, and how we're the same

let go of anger, hate, ignorance and shame

one day we can give the love and acceptance we seek

And embrace all the ways we're unique

imagine how things could be,

If we could see through the eyes of a stranger

I'd see me in them and them in me,

we'd all see how similar our differences can be.
