Dear Education,

Thank you for giving us the chance

to know,

to think,

to read,

to speak.

Thank you for being you, for not discriminating against who can have you.

I am sorry that we, the people,

hold you behind our backs and keep you from others

when all they want is a taste of what you have to offer.

Forgive us, Education,

for hiding your brightness behind a concrete wall

and for focusing your light on a select few.

But thank you, Education,

for seeping your light through the cracks in that wall - 

for illuminating the lives of children

who grow to adulthood, 

and who can prosper with your light showing them the way.

Thank you, Education,

for giving those who have you an equal opportunity 

to better themselves,

their families,

and their communities,

with what you have to offer.
