The Day After

Humidity is a bitch to me. It’s alive.

Sitting on cement, slapped fresh by Texas afternoon rain.

Microscopic droplets carry home, lingering oils resting on cheeks.

Clouds from above float through chambers of my lungs.

My head aches, reminding me to feel

Life,

take me by the waist and give me what I want,

Silent, flickering shadow friends.

A moment

when my heart fills with something unseen and felt in my fibers.

Yesterday was good for nothing,

but tomorrow may be good for something.

My smile won’t cease when the rain hits.

The sidewalk whispers from before, I won’t be damp forever.
