The Dam

Some days

the dam breaks.

And the laughter

you've been using as a mask

turns to heaving sobs

And the floodgates

open to the salty tears

And you could begin

to rebuild the wall

But this side of the river

it has been starved

for too long

So let the waters fill

the cracks of this

drought-stricken land

Let the wasteland flood

For with time

the ground will soak

up your tears

And as the earth drinks deep

it will live again

And from it will spring

new growth
