a cry for help

Location

i sounded the alarm

and stared out into the darkness

feeling nothing but the heaviness

of my own circumstance

i cried out for help

but kept my fingers crossed

that no savior would emerge from the shadow

i wanted nothing and needed everything

wanted no kind words, no sympathy, no help

but needed more than anything

a helicopter to arrive

equipped with a ladder that was long enough

to reach down and pull me out of this abyss

but as more and more mounds of dirt were shoveled in

i wondered if i would take the ladder anyway

or play dead until the rescuers moved on

to someone more deserving
