Cross

I find myself again in darkness
To a nameless God I speak my prayer
I've always looked to myself for strength
But tonight, it wasn't there.

My eyes for once are lacking
No future can I foresee
I always held my dreams dear
But now they're faint as memory

When I look in the mirror I see
What's left of my shattered destiny
And I want to be the person to breathe
The life back into the world around me.

It's so hard when you hear the world's cries
As you whisper to it your own goodbyes
But you can't bear to witness the Earth's demise
So you look in the mirror and find a new pair of eyes.

You find yourself with the strength you need
To change the world in a lonely heartbeat
And you find it's not the world who's changed
But it's you who dared to dance in the rain.

As you look out the window to see through life's stains
You find one person willing to share your pain.
And maybe she falters under the weight of some loss,
But she staggers over to help bear your cross.
