Correlation

My senior year begins,

but how am I to enjoy it?

I take advance placement classes,

she takes MRIs.

I plan meetings at lunch,

people plan visits with her at the hospital.

I dread waking up for school,

she dreads waking up for chemo.

I worry about my future,

she wonders if hers is ending.

I’m battling difficult courses,

My grandmother is battling cancer.

The heartbreak taking hold of my family

isn’t healing fast enough.

This poem is about:
Me
My family
