The Corner
Location
The Black man...which stands on the corner
It identifies and symbolizes the border in which his congregation of
friends and himself have allowed themselves to loiter
See everyday I pass along that very corner
And everyday it's the same old faces
Getting pulled over by the police and arrested for the same old cases
Then sits up in a cell and wonders why he isn't going places
See with every inch of my naturally brown skin that very same black man, by me, is despised
Because I worry not only for me, but for every other prosperous black man
That goes to school
Gets good grades
And plans on going to college
I worry that the very same black man that stands on the corner will be our demise
The Black man...which stands on the corner
So don't call me prejudice or a racist
Because I have this theory that if you put that black man in a classroom and give him a test
he won't even take it
Then runs back to the street
On his very two feet
And robs somebody later that day while being discreet
The Black man...which stands on the corner
I fear that that black man is verifying a specific quota
That every black man is a criminal, a thief, and a burglar
But me sir, I am no criminal
I am no thief
Nor a burglar
I am just a good black man which wants to get away from all this terrible weather
Metaphorically speaking of the bullets fired, crimes, and dead bodies, man it's just terror
That same black man that stands on the corner doesn't know the truth and lies
which lies behind the crimes he commits on a regular basis
He forgets the charges, but remembers all those hurt faces
And until he changes his life from a life crime and hatred to a life of fulfillment and greatness
He will always and forever be
The Black man...which stands on the corner
