Contemplating Change

Slithering like only superiors                                       could,
their serpent mouths released the most vile                 declarations.

True sentiments to her unhappiness -
in fact the main source -

Those nonchalant                                                        sentences,
so insignificant to them,
secured her in a snakeskin noose.

Clutching onto me for                                                  help,
I found her in a familiar, societal chokehold.

As she took her last breath,
I wondered, does she remember

The sleepovers we had as                                            kids?
The plans we made for our futures?

I do not blame her,
as the sweet tempts of sleep were too                          welcoming.

But now I am filled with the intense drive
to disperse the importance

Of being kind,
Of spreading                                                                warmth,

Of never letting someone
feel the empty space that a loved one held.

One thing I would                                                        change,
at least in this world,

Is a cessation to                                                           bullying:
a way to save the rest.
