Conflicts

Sometimes I can't see past the pain
It's really hard to explain
Why can't I just live my life
Without it cutting through me like a knife?
The names they call as I walk by
Make me question and wonder why
It's so hard for me to go outside
When it's just so much easier to hide
From people not like me
People who can't see
Who I am inside

These conflicts that we all face
Person vs. self
Person vs. person and society itself
Man vs. nature and everything in between
It's so commonplace that
It's now a strange routine

Why can't people just accept
Those who don't really fit in?
Why has that become
Such an unspoken sin?
We need to figure out
What this whole 'life' thing's about
Or just try to find a different route
Take a second and look around
Maybe what you'll see will make you simmer down

These conflicts that we all face
Person vs. self
Person vs. person and society itself
Man vs. nature and everything in between
It's so commonplace that
It's now a strange routine

This is my history
And yet it remains a mystery
So listen to me
And you might agree
To just be 'you'
Or just be 'me'
Just break free
Open your eyes and see

These conflicts that we all face
Person vs. self
Person vs. person and society itself
Man vs. nature and everything in between
It's so commonplace that
It's now a strange routine
So open your eyes . . .
Open your eyes
And see
