Coming Out is a Rollercoaster Ride
First, find out you have to get on this roller coaster,
You see the signs pointing toward the ride
You climb the stairs
You sweat and second guess yourself
Should i really be riding this? You ask
And then you reach the conclusion that coming out
will be apart of your story
You sit down in a seat and buckle in
You know it’s going to be a wild ride
At the beginning, you take it slow
Maybe tell a few close people, just to have a support net
There may be little bumps but there hardly noticeable compared to the tallest height
You start going up, feels like a 90 degree angle
You prepare to tell those closest to you
Maybe it’s your parent or sibling
Maybe it’s your friend or family member
Preparing is difficult
You get all sweaty, shaky and nervous
You’re not sure what the rest of the ride will be like after this
This could change everything, no
This WILL change everything
You decide how, when, and where you’re going to do this
You move up and down that slope a bit
You second guess yourself
Is it safe? Is it real? Will these people understand?
Ultimately, you are still moving up towards the climax
You reach the top and tell this person
All Time stops
It is scary for you
You look down at everything you went through to get here
The person you are talking to may not be able to see below
For them, they were placed at the top with you
It’s not a journey It’s an event
You are unable to see what’s ahead
There are a million miles
you prepare yourself for whatever that looks like
After this event, you think it’s over
But it’s just accelerating the rest of the ride
You fly down the coaster
Whether you're smiling from ear to ear or crying
Eventually, hopefully, the ride slows down
You catch your breath
Breath, in 1,2,3
Out 1,2,3
This roller coaster may never end
It keeps going up and down every time you come out
Sometimes it’s a tiny bump
Sometimes it 200 feet high
When you have gone past a bump, someone may join you
The more you come out,
the more people are able to sit with you on the ride
The more people will be able to hold your hand when you are scared
Every time, look back and see how far you’ve come
The progress you make will look different compared to others
Everyone has their own roller coaster rides to live through
You are not alone
Riding this ride only makes you braver, stronger, and undefeatable
