Cold Nose, Warm Toes
In a fast-paced world
it becomes more and more difficult to please.
Cars are faster, phones are bigger,
and children scream if they don't have at least $400
(tax not included)
under the Christmas tree.
I am uplifted by the slow-and-steady.
My heart is most content when I have easy days,
lying in bed, lost in a sea of fuzzy blankets,
my small dog like a tsunami among them.
Air in the house chilled,
animated sing-along on the small television screen,
cold nose, warm toes.
This life is always moving,
daily becoming faster, bigger.
We continuously prepare ourselves for battle,
grow stronger,
so we can simply leave a mark.
If we do not allow ourselves a grace period
to differentiate the platinum price tags and
Wall Street status from what truly matters,
we will only ever be another name on a paycheck.
