Close Encounter

Fri, 11/25/2016 - 13:49 -- gamer23

I saw her standing in the grass

On a cold autumn morning,

Hunching over plants in silence

In a corner of my backyard.

I saw the ears on her head

Like radars looking for something nearby.

I remember her clear, curious stare.

I was so close I could touch her

And see her nose shine in the sun,

But didn’t for fear of her instincts kicking in

As her black eyes stared me down.

Never have I had such a calm

Encounter with a doe before.
