A Choice

'It's a choice'

I wish.

Because if it was a choice,

I would choose to wake up

every day

to a body that matches

my mind

If it was a choice,

I would choose to feel confident

that my clothes

don't betray my fragile,

fragile masculinity

If it was a choice,

I would choose not to fear

that today, I might go to school and get beaten up

because in middle school

I used the girls' locker room

If it was a choice,

I wouldn't have spent

thousands of hard earned dollars

that my parents worked for

to make my body a little more comfortable

If it was a

choice,

I wouldn't

have

chosen it.
