Character Development

Location

A friend tells you, “If you were an anime character, you’d be the quiet, mysterious type who leans against the wall.”

You’re the epitome of mystery, the chill pill, the silent agent. You are cool. Speak only when spoken to and keep the light out of your eyes because emotionless is the new attractive.

When your words unravel, they unravel quickly, like a train wreck. Word after word comes out unpredictably as they crash into each other each varying in volume and coherency until none are left to take you back to where you first started and leave you in a giant mess. Now whose fault it that?

It’s the script writer’s fault! Ah, see, the script writer didn’t give you the fearlessness of the hero, the creativity of the artist or even an ounce of pure evil from the villains. Well maybe he or she did, but you don’t know that yet. You don’t know anything about who you are because it’s all a part of your character development.

See, the silent agent plan will only work if someone actually talks to you. Now until that happens, position yourself next to those characters. Maybe your dark allure will spike their curiosity and they might just inquire about why you’re so silent—I mean cool.

And if a hero comes up to you full of personality you don’t have, accept their offer for adventure. This might be the most exciting thing you’ve ever done, which will be some fierce competition to this morning when you actually walked out of your room!

Now if that happens, help the hero, but don’t actually be the hero because that’s not you. And character swaps aren’t accepted because you just can’t fill in any other role no matter how hard you try, no matter how hard you try.

But all is well because the hero is in trouble, you’ll be the savior. You don’t depend on the hero, the hero depends on you. After this adventure, you’ll be full-blown badass. But whatever comes in between, well, that’s all a part of your character development.
