The Celestial Queen of the Night

Darkness drapes its celestial mantle,
Over heavens, hills, and houses alike,
Its palpable shroud of splendorous ebony,
Blanketing the misty terrain of twilight,
Night dons its starry cape,
Its crown of gleaming moonstone,
Solemnly, effortlessly, Night glides across the sky,
Its vast expanse she soars over in wingless flight,
Only marred by the alighting of Day,
Who bursting forth in glorious array,
Assumes the throne among the heavens,
Casting Night into a day of captivity,
Ere she once more becomes empress of the cosmos
