Caterpillars in the Road
by Ariel Douglas (21 October 2014)
Broken hearts, broken spirits
In need of love, but never know it
Crawling through life small and vulnerable
Crossing what seems like a meaningless abyss
You travel along thinking that you're all alone
Waiting for your death to come
You think all that's left is crossing yet another road
Maybe dodging another set of roaring tires
But also that that next road might be the end
That next tire might be your demise
And yes, that could be true
But we love you too much to do nothing
You don't know that we're thinking of you
You don't know that we're waiting
But don't let us wait too long
If we wait too long, you'll never have a chance
We must take action to show you the rest of your life
In a final rebellion you wall yourself in
You refuse to listen and push us all out
All that is left for us is to plead on your behalf
We beg that you might not be one of those who never escapes
That you might live to be what you were made to be
You struggle and wrestle and finally break free
And oh what new beauty you own!
Through grace and mercy, love and hope
You've been sculpted and moulded
A new creation indeed
Now take flight, little butterfly
Spread your wings
And show the world what His grace can do!
