A Car Ride with My Sister

Location

I have the windows in my car rolled down,

And I don’t care who hears me sing outside.

I glance at Ali sitting to my right

And feel my heart begin to swell with pride.

Her mouth is moving in time with the song!

I knew she liked my music all along.

I slide the volume downward bit by bit

And whisper every line so I can hear.

Her soft and tenuous voice will not commit

To singing, yet her song is high and clear.

Before, I thought that we would never have

A single thing in common. I was wrong.

Despite our different bodies, minds, and souls,

Today we share the lyrics of this song.
