This Cannot Be Ignored

Love and hate and crazy things

A lion lingers, lost in its dreams.

Dreams for you, dreams for me.

His lips are cracked by the heat.

The heat it hurts, it’s gone to his head

It won’t cool down, until he’s dead

The pack looks on with watchful eyes

As condemning miracles fall from the skies.

The cubs are coddled but soon ferociously fight

But with each other, they will sleep tonight

Rotting decay never smelled so good

And all will feast, because they should.

But this long faced lion knows of more

This knowledge now makes him sore.

Everyone’s ways have gone awry

And now we are left alone tonight.

Ignorance is bliss. And it’s for the best

He must face it when he looks at his lioness.

Graceful and strong and roaming about.

Never, ever has there been this much doubt.

And she’s the picture of his far off seashore.

And he lets out one last, rueful roar.

This cannot be ignored.

This cannot be ignored.

This poem was written one night before I decided I had to break up with my girlfriend and best friend.  I just could not let her go on knowing that she was sacrificing so much and I couldn't give all that I had.  Hardest thing I had to do in a long time.
