Candle on The Water
Light.
A soul brushing a soul.
Just by the first touch.
Man in black,
Always said,
Love is a burning flame.
Two friends,
And a spark,
Tears fall,
As they grew apart
Months pass,
No contact.
Then one sunny day,
Two friends became lovers,
And best friends.
But in one month,
It all changed.
A boy became a man,
Traded his chaps and cowboy hat,
For combat bootsand a set of dog tags.
Still in love,
Letters would come and go.
Late night phone calls,
And one visit home.
A love like any other their age.
A young girl of seventeen,
In love with a sailor of nineteen.
And when the sailor went out to sea,
His lover vowed to wait for him,
Forever and always her promise to keep.
Saying goodnight,
To a picture by her bed,
His lover is scared,
Because of dreams in her head.
But the ring on her finger,
Reminds her not to fret.
His little candle,
Waiting for his return home.
Their love like no other their age.
The raging storms and the roughest seas,
A skillful sailor returns home,
Guided by his candle on the water.
