THE CAMPFIRE POEM
brilliant and inflaming
a pyro’s plastic milk container
is wafting at the peak of fire
the sunlight dripping makes a hinge
and rainbows start their leaking in
my heart is melted
shedding heft
the pyro builds
anticipation beauties
other times
I’d shade the glare
or tamp it down
or turn away
and avoid the pyro’s love of flame
but now I gaze with watery orbs
the pyro clapping laughs for joy
hunting colored cardboard
silvery paper beer peels
and empty plastic joys
in the fire
I saw a hinge
spiked with light
then mine fell
to opening in
