Butterflies

I

capture butterflies

and lock them tightly

in a glass jar

I watch them flutter about

carefree

encased in my heart

And everytime the jar shakes,

so does my stability

But persistantly

I stuff this jar

with wandering butterflies

like a child stuffs its face

with candy

just so that they will remain

safe in my eyes

I think I'm hurting my dear butterflies

my emotions

If I set them free,

I'm afraid they'll hurt me

with a butterfly effect

Afraid that my butterflies' liberty

will cause my hurricane

So there they will stay

locked inside me
