Burning Bridges

Burning bridges is dangerous.
It means an ultimatum,
A point of no return.
Once a bridge is burned,
You can never cross again.
Build a new bridge in its place, yes,
But that first bridge is gone forever.

But some bridges are better off burned.

I would cross the bridge hopefully,
Believing there was something for me on the other side.
But every time I crossed,
I realized I forgot something back home.
I expected the grass to be greener on the other side,
But it wasn't.
A storm raged across the bridge,
A storm that I foolishly chose to endure.
Things were much kinder on my side of the bridge, more peaceful.
The promiseland across the bridge was gone now, burnt to ashes.
So for my own happiness, my own safety, I will set this bridge ablaze.

Some bridges are better off burned.
