Breathless

It hurt to look upon the bulldog.

I longed to see him stare at me.

Not

Blankly ahead.

I knew I had to leave him

Even though we were never one.

So what is to be left behind

If there was nothing there to begin with.

His droopy eyes turned upon me

Smiling

Encouraging

Loving

Saying goodbye.

I then knew it was not meant to be.

I then knew he was never mine to lose.

Love.

I shall smile back

and walk away forever

Knowing the elegant eagerness I had for him was

Imaginary.
