Body Language

There is a language,
non- verbal
unwritten, unspoken
nonetheless
it communicates
while lacking
even the very simplest
of words.
( and for those knowledgeable
in it's interpretation
it can convey-
oh, so much.)
It's medium is
the body itself-
thus, it can be read
even by the
illeterate ...
It's methods and signals
are
varied and intricate...
It can relay
mood
and messages
information,
innuendos
it is suggestive,
infective
perfectly
understood
or-
often misinterpreted.
It is a code-
an inter and intra
species
lingo
of-
ruffled feathers,
roosters strutting
a dog's
hackles
rising
snarling-
or,
tail a- wagging,
sometimes tucked in
- or turned belly- up
submissive.
It is a head- bobbing
lizard,
the elaborate system
of
posture
and posturing...
It is an interchange
announcing
" danger,"
displaying emotion
spanning the spectrum
from
joy to fright
sorrow
or anger and suprise...
It is the pattern
of courtship,
repetitive
and generational
it is the lay
of ears
a language of the body-
hardwired.
And with us,
it is a wink
or a gesture
( obscene or inviting)
it is a glance, subtle
the softness of a sigh
it is a shrug
or a grimace
the universality of a
simple
sweet smile...
It is what we find beguiling
in that certain look-
you know the one,
the eyes telling
all.
