BLACK

Location

I don’t feel black in the way that I should

But if I talked and acted differently, I would.

It’s not right to steal, cuss, sag, and rob banks

For the “BLACK” label, though, it is required by race.

I love being black; so, why can’t I be?

Some say I’m not, because of my personality.

Others act “black” and it doesn’t matter...

Yet I get criticized for using proper grammar?

I have a large nose, does that count at all?

I run really fast, and jump high, and play basketball.

“You aren’t like other blacks” How can you tell?

Is it because I would rather succeed and not fail?

I’m not gonna’ try to be a gangster...

I’m just gonna’ live life and be “BLACK” by my standards.
