Bitterly Withered

Tired, restless
Heart beats in your chest and
Breathless
You’re smothered by the background and
Bound, restricted and backed into a corner
Hungry and famished, your throat aching to sing a song
But your tongue not tasting the lyrics and
Your brain filling with words that shouldn’t be said and lies
That burn in your ears and mix
With thoughts that taint souls and comply to social cries that demand
That wrongs be swept under the rugs and
The fragile be told they don’t belong.
So you harden the heart that beats in your chest and breathe
Without air and without sleep
Because you’re tired and restless
And the love you once had you're now forced to suppress.
