Behind the Mask

Location

She smiles every day,

So no one asks a question.

She cracks jokes with friends,

To distract from the truth.

She tries to keep a mask,

Over her reality.

To conceal her emotions,

From everyone she sees.

Every pain she hides,

Gets built up inside.

She may not feel it now,

But the pressure slowly builds.

Every tear she holds back,

Weakens her precious mask.

Every salty drop,

Damages its integrity.

Behind that sacred mask,

Is a hurt and timid girl.

But to all others,

She seems to be,

The happiest,

Girl in the world.
